At least four children are accounted for in the 1891 probate of Mary's mother Abagail/Abigail Thompson: Maggie, Arthur, Robert, and Pet. Co. A 1st Tennessee Calvary. -------- The one son, Robert, is the "Robert Frost" listed in the WPA listing for this cemetery as having died on May 16, 1939, age 62. Frost at 8:15 at the family home, 726 Wabash avenue. Death resulted from paralysis. The funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at the residence at 2 o’clock. Rev. Jonathan Lee, pastor of the South Ottumwa Baptist church, assisted by Rev. W.O. Livingstone, pastor of the Davis Street Christian church, will have charge of the services. The deceased was born in the state of Tennessee July 11, 1842, and celebrated his seventy-first birthday anniversary yesterday. Mr. Frost was an old soldier, having enlisted in the First Tennessee cavalry. He was a member of the J.M. Tuttle post of South Ottumwa. Besides his wife, ten children survive. They are Arthur of Fairbanks, Alaska; Robert, Thomas, Lloyd and Henry Frost of Ottumwa; Mrs. Margaret Curtis of Cambridge; Mrs. Cecilia Brouhard and Mrs. Leona Mitchell of Davenport, and Misses Hazel and Helen Frost of Ottumwa. Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” July 22, 1913: James M. Frost was born in Hawkins county, Tenn., July 11, 1842, and died at the family home, 726 Wabash avenue, on July 12, 1913. His death resulted from paralysis after a lingering illness of eight years. Mr. Frost was an old soldier, having enlisted in the First Tennessee cavalry on the 9th day of March, 1862. He received an honorable discharge May 27, 1865. Soon after the close of the war he located near Fairfield, Jefferson county, Iowa. He moved to Ottumwa twenty-three years ago where he resided until the date of his death. He was a member of the J.M. Tuttle post of South Ottumwa. Besides his wife, ten children survive. They are Arthur, of Fairbanks, Alaska; Robert, Thomas, Lloyd, and Henry of Ottumwa; Mrs. Margaret Curtis of Cambridge; Mrs. Cecilia Brouhard and Mrs. Leona Mitchell of Davenport; the Misses Helen and Hazel Frost of Ottumwa. To his beloved wife and children he has left an example of loyalty to country and home more valuable to them than earthly possessions. He was jovial at all times even when bodily infirmities and suffering made others uncongenial. He has left a name to be remembered. He united with the church in his native state and in his death committed his soul unto the hands of the God to whom he gave himself in service in early life. Funeral services were held at the home conducted by Rev. Jonathon Lee and Rev. W.O. Livingstone of South Ottumwa. The casket was covered with beautiful flowers. Interment was made in the Shaul cemetery.
