Gettys age 69 years of Colfax township, Rutherford County, N. C. , died May 2nd, 1917 after a year's lingering illness with stomach trouble and was buried at Walls church 4th of May. Rev. Martin Gold conducted the funeral service. Mr. Gettys was twice married, first to Miss Leonie, daughter of Thomas Calton. Martin Gold conducted the funeral service. Mr. Gettys was twice married, first to Miss Leonie, daughter of Thomas Calton. The following children survive: Thomas Gettys of California and Clyde Gettys of New Mexico, Mrs. Mary C. Roderick of Rutherford College, Mrs. Gaston Harriill and Mrs. Ed. Harrill, both of Ellenboro. Second wife was Miss Bettie McSwain of Cleveland county, who survives him. He was a quite, industrious farmer and bore his afflictions with Christian fortitude. Clyde, the younger son came to see him a few days before he died and will be here for awhile looking after the welfare of his step-mother, who is left alone. The surviving brothers and sisters of the deceased are: Martin Gettys of Decatur, Texas, Mills Gettys of Arkansas, T. G. and Plato Gettys, Mrs. Calvin Harrill of Rutherford County and Mrs. Zulia A.
