Description	:	James McNeal, one of the pioneer resident son this community, died Saturday afternoon at about five o’clock at his home nine miles southwest of Villisca. A complication of diseases caused his death. He had suffered from his ailments for some time, though he had been bedfast only a few days prior to his death. Mr. McNeal was born in Lee County, Iowa. A complication of diseases caused his death. He had suffered from his ailments for some time, though he had been bedfast only a few days prior to his death. Mr. McNeal was born in Lee County, Iowa. At the time of his death he was more than seventy-two years of age. He came to the farm where he died, in the year of 1865 and had lived there continuously since that time. He is survived by his wife, son Frank of near Hepburn, a daughter, Mrs. Jas. Trouts, who lives in canal; a brother, Chas. McNeal of Villisc; and two sister, Mrs. Mary Moore of southwest of town, and Mrs. Wm. Dyke of Hepburn. The funeral services were held at two o’clock Monday afternoon at the home southwest of town. Burial was made in the Villisca Cemetery. Villisca Review, Friday, August 1, 1919, page 8∼James McNeal, son of Thomas and Mary McNeal (originally of Maryland). Husband of Sarah Ellen Welsh - married 12 July, 1868. James, one of the earliest settlers in Page County, arrived in 1863, and lived in the same house until his death (the house is still standing and occupied by family.)
