The remains were taken to the First Baptist cemetery in Washington Township for interment. Mr. McPherren was born in County Down, Ireland, Aug. 20, 1820, and was married to Miss Nancy Reddick in 1840. Three children were born to them, two of whom survive him, J. R. McPherren who lives in Fillmore county, Neb., and Mrs. Agnes Phillips, who lives in McConnellsville, Ohio. In the spring of 1848 the family removed to America, stopping at Pittsburg, Pa., where Mrs. McPherren died within a short time. Mr. McPherren then removed to Mercer County, Illinois, and the following year was united in marriage to Mrs. Sarah Fleharty. Of the seven children born from this union six are still living. They are George N. McPherren of Lincoln Township, John H. of Iveyville, Edmund H., who makes his home with a sister near Cromwell, Mrs. Gilbert Hicks, Mrs. Fannie M. Lincoln of Logan County, Kansas, and Mrs. W. S. Lyons of this city. Mr. McPherren came to Adams County in 1867, being one of the pioneers of the county. He settled on a farm five miles north of Corning, where he lived until all his children reached maturity, in December, 1888, death took from him his devoted wife and helpmate, but he continued to live on the farm until his children persuaded him to remove to the home of one of them. Deceased was a good neighbor and friend, a most excellent citizen, a devoted husband and a kind and loving father. His last long illness he bore with patience and his last words were that he would soon cross the river and be at home. All but two of his children were with him at the time of his death.
