"Bill" Sibert passed away July 19, 1992, at his home in Russell, Iowa of heart failure. He was born in Confidence, Iowa on Dec. 7, 1922, to Earnest D. and Mamie B. Stone Sibert. Bill grew up and farmed in the Confidence area for 60 years before moving to Russell in 1983. After moving to Russell, he worked for Green Thumb Incorporated, sponsored by the National Farmers Union, at various jobs. They included working for the City of Russell, at the Lucas County Care Facility, the Russell Community School and most recently at the Chariton Senior Citizens Center. Failing health, due to pneumonia and heart problems in December of 1991, forced Bill to retire from his work. On Oct. 17, 1942, Bill was united in marriage to Donna Maxine Hellyer in Unionville, Mo. To this union six children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donna's parents, two infant sons, James Melvin and Duane Merl, one brother, Clyde and a sister, Mae Green, both of Newton. Bill leaves to mourn his passing, wife, Donna of Russell; son Richard Sibert and wife Shirley, also of Russell; three daughters, Barbara and husband Bob Chase, Nancy and husband Denny Hubby and Diana and husband Roger Sellers, all of Boone. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Other survivors include three sisters, Zimena Owens of Black Canyon City, Ariz., Catherine and husband Don Canaday and Bonnie Hardenbrook, all of Newton; two brothers, Earl Sibert and wife Gladys of Chariton and Jack Sibert and wife Marge of Knoxville; a sister-in-law, Vona Clark of Promise City and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives as well as many, many friends and neighbors Bill enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and watching his crops and his garden grow. He loved being with his family and friends, but his real joy was the visits from his grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 1992, at the Fielding Funeral Home with the Rev. Sonja Van Dusseldorp officiating. Burial was in the Confidence Cemetery near Confidence. Serving as casket bearers were Dale Cottrell, Bob Wilhite, Charles Davis, Harold Holdefer, Richard Linville and Dean Werts. Albion Torbert and Lee Wilson served as honorary bearers.
