Description	:	James Sherriff lived around Empire or Honor 'till 1923 when he moved to Mancelona, Antrim County. Mother [Maude Voice Sherriff] died four weeks later, leaving Dad with four small children. Mother being the main stay in our family, we children were soon on our own, the three older children left home soon after mother's death to earn their own living. Later Dad married Eunice Frederick Coon, widow [Eunice was not widowed, she had left her husband Charles Coon, and abandoned their young son, Clyde Coon, who was then raised by his brother.] three children were born to them, Helen Arvilla,... In later years Dad moved to the UP following the logging business. Was an expert with the violin, this was his one hobby, mother played the organ, piano and had a lovely voice. He and mother both loved music, guests never left our home until Mom and Dad played and sang. Mom (was) a small woman barely five foot 3 inches tall with black hair and blue eyes. James (was) a tall man, six foot 3 inches tall, also with black hair and blue eyes, all we children were blondes but sister Vera. One child died in 1914, (Emmett ). Merritt died in 1956 and Ida May in 1964. Their son Lester and (daughter) Vera lived most of their life in the west, Oregon, Idaho and Washington; Chester, the past twenty six years in Chicago, Illinois. Ida lived in Central Lake and Wayne, Michigan. I lived in Mancelona where my six children were born, later moved for a time in LaPorte, Indiana, then 15 years in Detroit, on retiring, we came to Bloomingdale, Michigan to be near our children.
