Description	:	His headstone here has he's date of birth as 1833, this could be correct, but is unusual that it states this, for the census years he's born ether 1829 to 1831. The Family Bible has his date as shown above. James served in the Civil War in the Union Army like his brother William H. Carter, and his youngest brother Jesse Carter who was killed in the first Bull Run on the Confederate side. They both entered into this war in Green Co. Tenn. Carter, and his youngest brother Jesse Carter who was killed in the first Bull Run on the Confederate side. They both entered into this war in Green Co. Tenn. Sons to John Carter and Lucinda ( Jennings ) Carter. Married to Barbara Jane Higgins in 1864. Later he made a contract with a Cigar Box Co. To build saw mills with no pay, but was given these properties after the timber was taken. James then sold these properties but kept the mineral rights, but nothing became of these rights. Over a time period from the 1870's to the 1890's was given about 65,000 acres or so of land. During this time said that he had discovered Silver and made home made Silver dollars, but was caught and payed a fine. His die for making the coins are said to have been nailed on a wall at the Erwin court house building. On May 6, 2016, Gordon W. Edwards made a trip over to Boone Cove Gap to comfirm and Identity its location and those buried. By doing this, we now know it's location for public use and to view on this FindAGrave.com site.
