He was born in Wapello County Jan. 16, 1884, the son of James O. and Matilda Joseph. He had lived in Ottumwa all of his life. He was married to Mary Ann Findlay [sic] in Ottumwa in 1951. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Elmer Joseph of Huntington Park, Calif.; three step sons, Clarence Findlay [sic] of Newton, Earl Findlay [sic] of Bloomfield and James Findlay [sic] of Ottumwa; two step daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Lathrop and Mrs. Maxine Hoskins, both of Ottumwa; and 19 step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, three brothers, and two sisters. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Jay Funeral Home with the Rev. A.D. Pringle of the Ottumwa Baptist Temple officiating. Burial will be in the Ottumwa [sic] Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ronnie and Earl E. Findlay [sic], Charles Smith, Richard Chichester, Allen Hoskins and Bill Hoskins Jr., all grandsons.
