The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon from his late home in this city at one o'clock, following which the remains were taken to Marquette for burial. Mr. Johnson came to St. Paul in the year 1903 and purchased a hardware store, which with the assistance of his son Alvin, was engaged in conducting the store for twenty-four years, selling out the business four years ago to Jacobsen and Nielsen. After a serious illness covering a period of seven weeks due to complications attributed largely to advanced age and surrounded by the members of his family, Mr. J. P. Johnson passed into the presence of his maker; for whose call he had been patiently waiting. James Peter Johnson was born at Soro, Denmark on January 14, 1848 died August 5, 1931 at the age of 83 years, 6 months and 20 days. When twenty-four years of age he left his native country to come to America the land of promise of the ambitious youth, and settled in Wisconsin. From there he came to Nebraska and homesteaded on a farm near Marquette. Feeling the urge for some place to worship he helped to establish and build a Danish Lutheran church in the country community near his home known as Kronberg and while residing there he took great delight in the progress of both the church and the community. He was married to Boline Dreves in Wisconsin in 1873 and to this union were born six children. the family moved from Marquette to Sumner, Nebraska, where Mr. Johnson engaged in the hardware business and where the family resided until 1903 when they moved to St. Paul. Mrs. Boline Johnson died Jan. 10, 1893 and with a daughter Mrs. Cora Johnson lies buried in the family plot in the churchyard at Kronberg. Mr. Johnson was married to Serena Emersen (Actually Rasmussen) on December 21, 1894 to which union were born two children. In St. Paul he was engaged in the hardware business under the name of J. P. Johnson and Son in which business he remained for many years and a short time ago retired from active business. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Lutheran church at Kronberg and remained true to his confirmation vows until the last, he was jovial and kind hearted able always to see the bright side. He was a man especially fond of his family and true, honest and conscientious in his business affairs. As a Christian he felt he had lived a long and useful life and at the end waited for his release and the Master's "Well Done." He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity at Sumner Lodge 312 and transferred to the St. Paul Lodge No. 83 to which he belonged at the time of his death. Those mourning his departure are his wife Serena and the following: Lewis M. Dreves, Los Angeles, California; Alvin Johnson, St. Paul, Nebraska. Mrs. Ray Paulsen, Lake Andes, S. D.; James P. Johnson, David City, Nebraska; Alpha Johnson, Sumner, Nebraska. Besides these there are six grandchildren. Mr. Johnson was born Jan. 15, 1848 at Soro, Denmark. He died at age of 83 years, 6 months. He came to America in 1872, to Kenosha, Wis. There he married Bolena Dreves in 1873. They took a homestead at Marquette, Neb., and went through all the privations of early pioneer life. To this union were born six children, L. (Louis) M. Dreves, Los Angeles, Calif., Alvin Johnson, St. Paul; Cora Johnson died Jan. 17, 1928; Mrs. Ray Paulson, Lake Andes, S. D., Arthur and one baby died in infancy. His wife died Jan. 10, 1893. He was married to Serena Rasmussen Dec. 21, 1894. Two children were born to this union, Jas. Percy Johnson, David City, Alpha Johnson, Sumner, Nebr. They lived at Sumner until 1903 when they moved to St. Paul where Mr. Johnson purchased a hardware store and was assisted by his son Alvin. They continued this business until three and a half years ago, when they sold out and Mr. Johnson retired. Funeral services will be held at the home at 1 o'clock Sunday with burial at Marquette, Neb. All the children have arrived except Louis, who is expected from California.
