His family moved to Jefferson County, Iowa when he was four years old. He lived near Brighton, Iowa until 1872, when he moved to Quitman. He moved to Skidmore in 1878. He married Mary Jane Anderson in 1856. She died in 1866. The couple had four children: A. C. Parshall, of Quitman, Mo., Mrs. Belle Duffy, of Pattonsburg, Mo., and Frank and John Parshall of Kansas City, Mo. Parshall married Ruthilla Ross on July 4, 1868. The couple had four children: Fred Parshall, of Wray, Colorado, James G. Parshall of Kansas City, Mrs. Mary Rounds of Wray, Colorado, and R. E. Parshall of St. Joseph, Mo. He was survived by one sister, Mrs. Genet Kyle, of Excelsior Springs. ------------------------- From the Skidmore, Missouri New Era, December 31, 1908, page 1, column 3: "74 Years Old Monday James Parshall was seventy-four years old Monday and celebrated the event by visiting his daughter, Mrs. G. M. Duffey of Pattonsburg, after a few days visit there he will go to Kansas City to make his three sons, Frank, John and James a short visit. Uncle Jim was born seventy-four years ago in Fairfield Co., Ohio, and left there when four years of age for Jefferson Co., Ia where he lived for thirty years, then moved to Missouri settling first in Quitman, afterward moving to this township on the place where he now lives, several years before the town of Skidmore was laid out." ----------------------------- See the October 30, 1924 Skidmore News, page 3 for a family picture. "Five Generations - 1834-1924 It is needless to name the eldest party in the above group, but few realize that it represents the five generations of the James Parshall family. His son Frank, is holding the little baby boy, which is the son of the lady on the left. The grandmother of the baby boy and daughter of Frank, is standing by Mr. James Parshall, and there is a lapse of almost ninety years between the eldest and youngest. Mr. Parshall has twelve grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. 'Uncle Jimmie' as most everyone here call him, was born in Ohio in 1834 and came to Iowa when four years of age where he remained until he moved to Quitman, Mo., in 1872. In 1877, he and Mrs. Parshall moved to the place where they now reside, 1 1/2 miles southeast of Skidmore. Mr. Parshall came west in the Indian days and has had many experiences in olden times. He was a neighbor of Mr. Meeker who drove an oxen team to the state of Oregon in 1841 and just recently made a trip back to this country in an airoplane, on which many of the papers commented. Mr. Parshall, although a few weeks less than ninety years of age, tends to his farm, raises strawberries and vegetables, and drives a Ford car as well, and safer than most of the younger generation. he was awarded first prize at Maryville last year for the oldest automobile driver. You can always find 'Uncle Jimmie' ready to work for any cause which is for the better of the community. A. C. Parshall of Quitman; Frank, John and James Parshall, Jr., all of Kansas City; R. E. Ella Jane Parshall died at the age of 16 and one girl died in infancy." ----------- Note: Son John H. Parshall died in Kansas City and was buried in the Hiram Burial Park, St. Louis.
