Read More	The Greenville News - Friday, 9 Sept 1881 Startling Discovery of a Missing Man's Whereabouts - Mr James P Moore found in his Barn - Dying in his Sleep yesterday - Purchases of Chloroform and Laudanum (Excerpts from the lengthy article) "Mr James P Moore, a prominent Attorney and citizen of this city. He was last seen going through the grove at the east end of Main Street early on Tuesday afternoon, after having purchased an ounce of chloroform from Earle and East's Drug Store. He was found about 5 am on Thursday morning, dead from anondyne poisoning, Dr J E Wilkes, of Earle & East testified that soon after one o'clock on Tuesday the 6th he sold Mr Moore an ounce of chloroform, deceased saying he wanted it for his wife who was suffering from a sick headache. He seemed to be in good spirits and was smoking a cigar. It is believed that Mr Moore's financial transactions, on which there was a shadow, have been brought to light. Probably the total amount of all the missing and mis-appropriated funds, is not over $2,500. Except for one horrible passion that spoiled his life and brought it to such a dreadful close, Mr Moore had few faults. He was a man of very considerable intellect....and had every prospect of a bright and useful career until the gambling mania seized upon him. His age was about 43 years. Attendance to funeral: Mr Lewis Moore of Ninety Six, a brother; Mr J P Moore Jr, now of Salisbury, NC, eldest son.
