Read More	The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, June 25, 1925; pg. 1 James Polk Lowe, the son of Phillip and Mary Ann McCleary Lowe, was born in Tuscarawas county (sic), Ohio October 12th, 1843; died at Ramona, Oklahoma, June 20, 1925, age 81 years, 8 months and 8 days. His boyhood and youth were passed in his native county, and when twenty years old, he left home and went to Bureau county (sic), Illinois, where he remained four or five years, removing to Sidney, Iowa, at which place he was united in marriage to Miss Isa R. Van Eaton on October 12th, 1870. To this union were born eight children: Mrs. E.M. Shields of Elk City, Kans.; Frank Van Lowe of Steele City, Nebraska Thomas Van Lowe of Goodland, Kans.; Mrs. S.J. Clark of El Paso, Texas; Ralph Van and Hary Van Lowe who departed this life eight years ago. Since the death of his wife, March 18, 1918, at Cadams, Nebraska, he has made his home with his youngest son Ralph Van, removing with them to Ramona five years ago. In his youth he became a member of the First Presbyterian church, but two years ago he united with the First Baptist church at Ramona. Mr. Lowe was a true Christian and a kind and devoted father. He took a great interest in educational affairs as well as other movements which tend to the elevation of society. He was a man of intelligence and refinement, who manifested great kindness in his family relations, and a cordial spirit in social life. These traits, together with his upright character, won him the regard of many friends and the respect of the entire community. The body was brought to Superior Monday and after a brief service at the grave, conducted by Rev. C.J. Frank, pastor of the Presbyterian church at Deshler, was laid to rest by the side of the wife. A few friends from Cadams, Nora and Superior, were present to meet the funeral party and pay a last tribute of respect to a pioneer of this section of Nebraska.
