Description	:	(KS) Narka News Sept. 15, 1916 J. R. Gilstrap was born in Putman county, Missouri, Dec, 5, 1840, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Chas. Stephens, near this city, Sept. 7, 1916, aged 75 years, 9 months and 2 days. He spent his boyhood days in Putman county. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth A. Leonc June 7, 1860, to which union eleven children were born, six of them with their mother, survive him-two sons and four daughters. He spent his boyhood days in Putman county. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth A. Leonc June 7, 1860, to which union eleven children were born, six of them with their mother, survive him-two sons and four daughters. He joined the Missouri state militia, in which he served six months, after which he enlisted as a private in Company D, Twenty-third Regiment of Missouri Infantry. He enlisted on the 28th day of August 1862, and served his country almost three years, being discharged from service the 18th day of July, 1855. After the war he made his home in Missouri until 1880, when he came west, with his family, and remained a resident of this section until his death.
