Both of the deceased passed away at their home in Newport Beach, California, and the remains were brought here for interment. Mr. Jones had formerly resided here. He was at one time engaged in the automobile business here with his two sons-in-law, Hank Harris and W.C. Bullock, and also held the office of precinct assessor. James R., son of Nathan B. and Minerva (Robart) Jones, was born near Holland, Michigan, March 5, 1849. Died at his home in Newport Beach, California, July 24, 1935, aged 86 years, 4 months and 19 days. His parents moved to Iowa in 1857; thence to Missouri in 1868. He was married to Matilda F. Jones October 24, 1869, near Unionville, Missouri. Five daughters came to bless this union: Flora Harris and Carle Bullock of Costa Mesa, California; Iva Cannon, Nelson, Nebraska; Rosa who died in infancy, Rutha Shelton of Paonia, Colorado. There are nine grand children and eight great grand children. They moved to Smith county (sic), Kansas in 1879, settling on a farm near Reamsville, enduring the hardships and privations of pioneer life. He took a great interest in social and political affairs in the community, serving a term as county commissioner. He was strong in his conviction for right, and was ever ready to defend his principles. They moved to Blaine county (sic) Nebraska. In 1908, homesteading in another new country. Came to Nelson in 1913, where the wife died on Augut (sic) 16, 1928. He went to California, building another home there. He was married to Mrs. Una V. Davis May 5, 1931. She passed on July 8, 1935. Besides the above mentioned relatives, he leaves three half brothers, J.N. and F.C. Jones of Smith Center, Kansas, and F.P. Jones of Fairview, Oklahoma. All three were were (sic) present at the funeral services, together with a host of other relatives and friends to mourn the departure of a kind and loving relative, friend and neighbor of whom all will say: "the world is better for his having lived in it."
