Description	:	James was the son of Niel Kennedy. Niel Kennedy was a native of Scotland and served with the British army during the American Revolution. At the end of the Revolution he emigrated to America and settled in Washington County, New York and later Chenango County. Niel Kennedy was married twice: Axsie Kegwin and Jennet Robinson. James Kennedy was the oldest son and second child in a family of ten children. He lived in New York until 1854 when he moved to Benton County, Iowa. In 1865 he moved to Sarpy County, Nebraska. At the end of the Revolution he emigrated to America and settled in Washington County, New York and later Chenango County. Niel Kennedy was married twice: Axsie Kegwin and Jennet Robinson. James Kennedy was the oldest son and second child in a family of ten children. He lived in New York until 1854 when he moved to Benton County, Iowa. In 1865 he moved to Sarpy County, Nebraska. Farming was his life occupation. James married Lucy Rathburn 3 Jan 1828 in Chenango County, New York. She died in New York in the summer of 1847. They had six children, all born in New York. Sarah Jane Kennedy was born in 1829 and died in 1832 at the age of 3 years 8 months. John Rathburn Kennedy (16787449) was born in 1834 and died in Dodge Co, NE in 1897. He married Amanda Royce in 1860 in Tama County, Iowa. He was also a veteran of the Civil War, serving with Co D 28th Iowa Infantry. Andrew Robinson Kennedy (7683270) was born in 1836. He served with the 13th Iowa Infantry Volunteers for one year. After moving to Nebraska with his family, he married Katie Shepard. He served as Senator for Cass, Sarpy, Saunders, Seward and Butler counties in the 1871 session. He is buried in Colorado. Nancy Jennette Kennedy was born in 1837 and died in NY in 1842 at the age of 5 years. Elvira Axsie Kennedy was born in 1840. She married David Patterson in Benton County, Iowa, in 1857. John Truman Kennedy was born in 1843 and died in Benton County, Iowa in 1861 at the age of 17 years. ---- James Kennedy's 2nd marriage was to Hannah Chapman on Jan 1848 in Chenango County, New York. She was the daughter of Isaac Chapman and Sally Wooster. In 1849 they had a daughter, Sarah Jane Kennedy. Sarah married Royal Glover in 1867 in Sarpy County, Nebraska, and lived near her parents. After the death of her father in 1872, Hannah lived with Sarah and her family. ---- James died in 1872 at the age of 70 years 2 days.
