He was born Nov, 26, 1917, in Chanute, the son of Fredrick A. and Luella (Stipp) Midcap. He was raised and attended schools in the Chanute area and graduated from Chanute High School in 1935. He also graduated from Chanute Junior College and attended Oregon State University to study forestry. He began work as a mail carrier in 1941, but that career was interrupted by World War II. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps on Nov. 7, 1942, and served until Feb. 12, 1946. Upon his return home, he resumed his work with the Postal Service and worked as a mail carrier until his retirement in 1980. He belonged to the First United Methodist Church, the Methodist Men and the American Legion, all of Chanute. He enjoyed his garden, flowers, hunting, fishing and boating. He married Edna L. Kuykendall on March 26, 1941, in Chanute. She survives. Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Reinhardt, Chanute; four grandchildren, three nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Frederick Midcap in 1969, three sisters and two brothers. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, at the First United Methodist Church, led by the Rev. Larry E. Myers. Private burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 5 - 6 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the Cherry Street Youth Center and may be left with the funeral home. Johnson Mortuary, Chanute, is in charge of arrangements.
