Married to Lillian Elizabeth Cook Creech on March 16, 1940 in Danville, Virginia. ******************************* DURHAM - Mr. James Robert Crabtree, 91, resident of 4411 Murphy School Rd., died Saturday morning in Duke Medical Center. He was one of 13 children born to the late Iley Monroe and Nellie Morris Crabtree of Orange County. Mr. Crabtree was a loving and devoted husband and father. During the last three and a half years of her life, he visited his wife, the late Lillian Cook Crabtree, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home morning and evening every day. He also cared for his son, Jimmy, during the years of his illness with diabetes. Mr. Crabtree was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union for over 50 years, at times serving as President. He was a member of the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served from 1934 to 1937. Surviving are one son, James Monroe (Jimmy) Crabtree of Hillsborough; one daughter, Mrs. Sara Creech Eggleston of Charlotte; two sisters, Mrs. Brady Martin and Mrs. Mildred Cartee; and one brother, William Crabtree all of Durham; two grandsons, Gavin Carr of Charlotte and Michael Carr and his wife, Kathryn, of Chester, S.C.; and three great-grandchildren, Alexis, Duncan and Nicholas Carr all of Chester, S.C. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in Mt. Hermon Baptist Church by Dr. Victor Cole. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
