James Dravland was born January 2, 1941, in Bottineau, ND, to Albert and Lillian (Fagerlie) Dravland. He attended Bottineau High School, and then worked as a farm laborer. On August 16, 1963, Jim was united in marriage with Lois Yttreness in Davis, SD. The couple remained in the area until moving to Sioux Falls in the late 1960s. On August 16, 1963, Jim was united in marriage with Lois Yttreness in Davis, SD. The couple remained in the area until moving to Sioux Falls in the late 1960s. Once in Sioux Falls, Jim worked as a mechanic. In 1985, he went to work for Darrell Brink Construction and in 1999, worked as a custodian at Augustana College and became a greeter at Sam’s Club. He retired from Sam’s in 2014. An active family man, Jim adored his children. Their pursuits became his, and as a result he served as a Boy Scout Leader, a softball and basketball coach, and many other “dad” activities. Jim enjoyed spending time at the rink with his daughter, whether he was building props, setting up show curtains or if it was just to watch her skate. He cherished and spoiled his granddaughter, Arianna, with love, while also watching her giggle on the family trampoline. Jim enjoyed being around people, and his mornings were filled with water walking at Dow Rummel and having coffee with friends at Bob’s. In his younger days, Jim enjoyed bowling, camping and traveling to visit family members, and attending the Dravland Family Reunions. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, following the Minnesota Twins, and with his cat at his side, liked reading Christian books and Westerns. Jim was a member of First Baptist Church where he enjoyed being involved in a number of activities. Grateful for having shared his life are his relatives; wife, Lois Dravland, Sioux Falls, SD; son, Robert (Amy) Dravland, Brookings, SD; daughter, Julianne (Matthew) Lewis, Sioux Falls, SD; granddaughter, Arianna Lewis, Sioux Falls, SD; and brother, Ordean (Evelyn) Dravland, of Hastings, NE, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, LaNette Dravland; brothers, Lyle and Alvin Dravland; and his niece, Faith Dravland. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 Monday, September 18, 2017, at First Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 2:00 with the family present from 2:00 to 4:00 Sunday at Miller Southside Chapel, 7400 S. Minnesota Avenue, directly across from Landscape Garden Center.}
