SCULLY DIES SUDDENLY STRICKEN AS HE WAS LEAVING HIS WORK AT PACKING HOUSE–DIED FOUR HOURS LATER Apoplexy, which seized upon him as he was going down the stairs from his department at the packing house last night, caused the death of James R. Scully. The deceased had been a resident of this city for many years past. He was 69 years old. The stroke being but light at first it was thought that his sickness was caused by slight injuries received in falling on the steps, but becoming rapidly worse, he was removed to the home of his daughter, Mrs. L.M. Ehrman, 314 North Moore street, in a carriage. At 10 o'clock death claimed him. Attending physicians state that they are unable to decide whether or not the fall caused the apoplexy or whether the stroke caused his falling. Coroner A.W. Slaught was called to investigate the case, but since apoplexy was discovered as the cause of death, an inquest will not be held. Coroner Slaught stated today that in all probability apoplexy resulted in his falling. Mr. Scully had resided in this city for many years and was widely known in South Ottumwa. His wife preceded him in death in December eight years ago. Three daughters and two sons survive him: Mrs. Blanche E. Dimmitt, Mrs. Ehrmann, of Ottumwa, and Miss Minnie V. Scully of Kankakee, Ill., Arthur M. and Guy H. of this city. He also leaves two brothers and one sister. The funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock at the residence of the daughter, conducted by Rev. W.D. Spiker, pastor of the Plymouth Congregational church. Interment will be made in Zion cemetery.
