Sanford Evans Dies Of Sudden Heart Attack James Sanford Evans, well-known retired Jackson businessman, died suddenly at 8am Tuesday morning when he suffered a heart attack while backing his car from the driveway of his residence at 76 Bridge Street. He was 73. Mr Evans apparently died instantly while his car was in motion. When his death left the vehicle without control it spun about in erratic circles five or six times according to witnesses, striking parked vehicles belonging to John W. Galm of Bridge street and the Paul McMann service station at Bridge and State Streets. the vehicle was finally brought to a halt when Odie Lewis ran alongside, managed to get the door open and turn off the switch. Lewis injured his leg slightly in the attempt. Mr. Evans was a native of Jackson and spent his entire life here. He was a retired electrical contractor and for many years operated an electric appliance store on Pearl Street. He was an exservice director of the city of Jackson and during the war years, he was an electrical inspector attached to Wright- Patterson Air Force Base. Mr Evans had been very active in both the Moose and Eagles lodges of Jackson, serving as governor of the Moose and President of the Eagles at various times. He was also a member of the Jackson Elks Club. Survivors He was preceded in death last October by his wife, Cora. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. William Gahm, who had been staying with him. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters: O.L.Evans of Washington C.H., Mrs. Flora Little of Dresden, Ohio, Mrs. Mae Boykin of Marion, Indiana, Mrs Frances Neff of LaGrange, Illinois, and Mrs. Ruth Miner of Springfield. The body is at the Mayhew funeral home where friends may call after 3pm Wednesday, and where funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2pm. Burial will be in Fairmount cemetery.
