John immigrated from Novia Scotia to New York about 1817 or 1818. They had three sons William, John and James. Mary died, 13 March 1832 in Crown Point, Essex County and is buried there. James and his wife Clarissa had four children born while living in New York, Lydia, Cornelius, Horace and Theron (married Rachell Banghart and they are buried in Jasper, Iowa). James and his wife Clarissa had four children born while living in New York, Lydia, Cornelius, Horace and Theron (married Rachell Banghart and they are buried in Jasper, Iowa). James brother John married Elizabeth Swaney and they had four children, Elizabeth (married Caleb Woodbury); Mary, John and Henry. After Henry died in the Civil War prison camp and Johns' wife Elizabeth died (and is also buried in Crown Point,) James and his family along with his brother John and Henry's wife Pyra immigrated to Iowa. John and Clarissa both died in Poweshiek County, Iowa and are buried in the Kent Cemetery. James daughter Cornelia married David Martin while living in Iowa. James, Pyra and four of her children (Hal Percy, Shelly, Eloise (Heckman) and Stella (Foster) and Clarissa and David's family all came to Fillmore County and settled in West Blue Township.
