James Leggott Sr. Dies in Nebraska
Word has been received here of the death of James Leggott Sr. of Elwood, Nebraska. He died about 3:30 p. m. Tuesday following an illness of about one month.
Miss Annie Leggott, sister of the deceased, left Tuesday by bus for Elwood when word was received by the seriousness of her brother's illness. Mr. and Mrs. James Holtman and daughter Sharon left early Wednesday morning to attend the services there, which will be held Friday. Another sister, Mrs. Herman Holtman, resides in Clifton.

JAMES T. LEGGOTT
James Thomas Leggott, son of James and Rachael Purcell Leggott, was born May 2, 1894 in Iroquois county, Clifton, Illinois. He was baptized in his home when an infant.
He grew to young manhood in the Clifton, Illinois vicinity and resided there until September 29, 1935 when he and his family moved to the farm northwest of Elwood which was still his home at the time of his death.
He was united in marriage to Susan Elbert on February 7, 1917, at Cullon, Illinois. To this union nine children were born, all of whom survive him. They are Mrs. Evelyn Puls, Sherle Leggott, Jas. J. Leggott, Mrs. Anna Mae Wade, Mrs. Alice Jean Dreher, Billie Leggott and Donald Leggott, all of Elwood; Mrs. Eldora Synovec of Lincoln and Mrs. Doris Saulsbury of North Platte. Also surviving are two sisters, Miss Annie Leggott and Mrs. Rae Holtman of Clifton, Illinois; twenty grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends. One brother, Edward Leggott of Clifton, Ill., preceded him in death in January 1956.
Mr. Leggott loved people, like to visit, always was a friend to all and had many, many friends. His friendly smile and cheerful greeting will be missed by those who met him daily.
Although Jim had been in poor health for some time, his condition did not become critical until a week prior to his death, when he was taken to Mary Lanning hospital in Hastings. At the time of his passing on August 19, 1958, he was 64 years, 3 months and 17 days of age.
Funeral services were held at Elwood Christian church Friday, August 22 at ten o'clock in charge of the pastor, Warren C. Anderson. Interment was in Elwood cemetery.
A quartet composed of Mrs. F. Colgrove, Mrs. Wes Fong, J. L. McKenzie and Jack McKenzie sang, "Jesus Lover of My Soul" and "Nearer My God to Thee." Mrs. J. B. Chambers was organist.
Casketbearers were Don Chapman, A. T. Almquist, Wm. Bogle, Gene Staedelin, Andrew Christensen and l. V. Hanson. ______________________ |
