He has been expecting the change ever since he has been confined to his home, and was seemingly anxious to go, expressing a hope of a happy future. He has been expecting the change ever since he has been confined to his home, and was seemingly anxious to go, expressing a hope of a happy future. Mr. Strode was born in 1821(sic) near Hagerstown, Wayne county, Indiana, where he grew up, and was married 57 years ago, to his wife who survives him. He was the last of 11 brothers and sisters. In his native county, he was a man of affairs, serving the county as commissioner and as township officer. At one time during the war, by a large purchase of grain and other investments, he had $100,000 dollars worth of government bonds besides other property, but he lost all by buying on a falling market. For years he has been a member of the church, first joining the New Light church; but when he came here he associated himself with the Christian denomination. He came to Kansas in --- and settled on a farm a few miles west of town, and moved in town about four years ago. Of eight children born, only three survive him. For several days he could not speak, but on Sunday night he motioned for paper and pencil and wrote in a firm hand "you can't force a change from the natural to the spiritual life, we must wait for the Lord's time." Funeral services were held at the Christian church on Wednesday by G.W. Brown, a large procession followed his remains to the Cherokee Cemetery.
