Gammill Another familiar figure has gone from our midst. One by one the ripened sheaves are gathered into the eternal garners. We will miss father Gammill. Mr. Gammill was born in York county (sic), Pa., February 23, 1826. As a young man he had his share in the stirring events of the time, crossing the plains to California where he dug gold with the Forty-niners. But feeling dissatisfied with the life and opportunities there he came back in a few years. He married Miss Mary Landon on November 24, 1853, and this union and fellowship was granted to them for nearly sixty years. Mr. Gammill was a carpenter by trade and a hard and honest workman whom everybody loved and respected. He came to Nelson nearly twenty-eight years ago when still an active man. Advancing years left their imprint in his body and of late he had not been strong, but still able to attend to his garden and the like. About a week ago he was taken with a case of la grippe and this later developed into pneumonia. He died peacefully on Sunday night at his home, surrounded by several of his children and his faithful wife. He had reached the advanced age of 84 years, 11 months and 6 days. Besides the wife, there are eight children and five grandchildren that are left to mourn his death. The funeral was held from the home on Wednesday afternoon, Rev. F.G. Knauer and Rev. J.F. Green being in charge, and the body was laid to rest in the Nelson cemetery (sic).
