He was the third child of a family of seven children, Miranda Hale, Elizabeth Stewart, Sarah Kohl, Amanda Beamer, Lafette Jones, Martin Jones, all deceased. He was married to Matilda R. Woods, December 10, 1876, who preceded him in death April 27, 1927. To this union was born three daughters, Clara Mae Lamb, deceased July 2, 1929; Bertha Jones, died in infancy; and Elsie D. West of Lancaster, Mo., and one foster son, Harley L. Jones of LaHarpe, Illinois, survive. At six months of age his parents moved to Schuyler county where he lived the remainder of his life. In early manhood, he joined the M.E. church at Liberty and later transferred his membership to the Lancaster M. E. church. He was also a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge of which he was an active member. Most of his life was spent on a farm north of Lancaster, where he made a host of friends among the neighbors, through his honest and sincere friendship. He also leaves to mourn his passing sixteen grand children and six great grand children, besides a number of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at the M. E. church by Rev. Lyle L. Gaither, Sunday afternoon and interment was in the I. O. O. F. cemetery.
