The family requests that memorials be directed to VFW Post 1644. --- Jim was born on July 4, 1931, in Battle Creek, the son of Mon and Blanch (James) Bartee. He was baptized at the Methodist Church in Battle Creek. He was very active in the church during his youth. He attended Battle Creek Public Schools and graduated from Battle Creek High School. He excelled in basketball. Following his education, Jim enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1950. He served during the Korean War and was stationed at Macdill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla. In 1951, Jim married his high school sweetheart, Marcy Rodekohr, in Millersport, Ohio, while on leave. He was sent to Africa for nine months. Upon his return to the states, he was stationed in Fairfield, Calif., on the Travis Air Force Base, where he served as a military policeman. He completed his service there. He and Marcy returned to Nebraska in 1954, relocating to Norfolk. Jim was employed by Champion Oil Company out of Columbus. He became the supervisor of the painting crew for the Kerr McGee Gas Stations in the central states for 20 years, after which Jim began the Bartee Paint Company. Jim was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 16 and the VFW Post 1644, both of Norfolk. He was very active in both posts. He helped cook for the VFW Sunday breakfasts. Jim enjoyed selling poppies and playing shuffleboard. He especially enjoyed dancing. However, his passion was visiting and joking with his many friends. He will be remembered as a true friend. Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years; their son, Jim and his wife, Bonnie; granddaughter Cassandra Schrad and great-grandchildren Jaidyn and Kaidynce; and grandson Cole Haddix and his wife, Andrea. He is also survived by one sister, Jane Collier of Fremont, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and five brothers.
