Description	:	John Robert Bartee was born, February 28, 1925 to Monroe and Blanche (James) Bartee at Tilden, NE. John died Monday, January 14, 2013 at Faith Regional Health Services. He graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1943 and enlisted in the Army right after graduation. John served from July 7, 1943 to December 12, 1946; he served in the European Theatre during World War II and attained the rank of Sergeant. John was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge as well as a Purple Heart for Being Wounded. ... Read More	John Robert Bartee was born, February 28, 1925 to Monroe and Blanche (James) Bartee at Tilden, NE. John died Monday, January 14, 2013 at Faith Regional Health Services. He graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1943 and enlisted in the Army right after graduation. John served from July 7, 1943 to December 12, 1946; he served in the European Theatre during World War II and attained the rank of Sergeant. John was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge as well as a Purple Heart for Being Wounded. On February 27, 1946 John married the love of his life, Katherine M. Reeves at Trinity Lutheran Church in Yankton, SD. They farmed west of Battle Creek. John later worked for Ralston Purina and Norco Mills. He retired in 1988. John was active in public life and civic engagement. He served on the Battle Creek City Council for 14 years, was active in St. John Lutheran Church and choir was also an advocate for the construction of the Community Pride Care Center in Battle Creek. He was a member of the board of The Farmers Home Administration, a member of the Battle Creek Lion's Club and the Battle Creek American Legion Post 75. John also coached Junior Legion Baseball. John looked forward to his daily "coffee sessions" with his buddies at a main street café. He loved life, people and his family. John is survived by his wife Katherine, daughter, Jackie Sunderman of Norfolk, son, Bob and his wife Helen Bartee of Omaha, grandchildren and their spouses, Greg and Lori Sunderman of Lincoln, Deanna and Tom Bartek of Omaha, Angie and Kurt Burbach of Omaha, Josh and Dana Bartee of Omaha. John especially enjoyed his 5 great-grandchildren: Eli Burbach, Sam Sunderman, Josie and Gabe Bartek and Tess Bartee. He is also survived by a brother, Jim and Marcy Bartee of Norfolk and sister, Janet and Ron Collier of Fremont, Ohio. John enjoyed his many nieces and nephews too. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings and his son-in-law, Les Sunderman. Burial was in the Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Norfolk, NE., with Military Rites by the Nebraska National Guard Honor Guard and American legion Post 75 of Battle Creek.
