Description	:	James W. Blanton James Woodrow Blanton, 85, of 1047 Grassy Pond Road, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, at his home. Born in Cherokee County, he was the husband of Elmeree Medley Blanton for 63 years and son of the late Lewis Blanton and Eunice Martin Blanton. He was a retired school teacher, teaching at Cherokee County Technical School for 32 years. Blanton James Woodrow Blanton, 85, of 1047 Grassy Pond Road, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, at his home. Born in Cherokee County, he was the husband of Elmeree Medley Blanton for 63 years and son of the late Lewis Blanton and Eunice Martin Blanton. He was a retired school teacher, teaching at Cherokee County Technical School for 32 years. He was a Mason and Shriner, formerly serving as Worshipful Master, and was a U.S. Air Force World War II veteran. Mr. Blanton was a member of Grassy Pond Baptist Church, where he was a former Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the Grassy Pond Boys Bluegrass Band. Also surviving are a son, Steve E. Blanton and wife, Elizabeth G. Blanton, of Gaffney; a daughter, Debi Mikota and husband, Dr. Bruce Mikota, of Spartanburg; three grandchildren, Stephanie B. McCutcheon and husband, Edward McCutcheon, Jonathan Bryce Mikota and Andrew Steven Mikota and fiancée, Brooke Moore; two brothers, Johnny B. Blanton and D.V. Blanton and wife, Wilma, all of Gaffney. He was preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice Blanton Allison. The family will receive friends Saturday, Aug. 29, from 9:30-11 a.m. at Blakely Funeral Home. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow at 11 a.m. in Frederick Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Edward McCutcheon officiating. Memorials may be made Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
