Description	:	John was born Jan Telling in December 1862 in the dairy farmers village of Niehove, located in the western part of the Dutch northeastern province Groningen, in the former municipality Oldehove, which became in 1990 part of municipality Zuidhorn. His parents were Jan Telling (Sr) and Sjoukje Kloosterman. His parents were Jan Telling (Sr) and Sjoukje Kloosterman. On December 20, 1884 servant Jan Telling married in Oldehove, province Groningen, the one year younger Wiepke Dijkstra, born in the village Burum, located in the northeastern part of the Dutch northern province Friesland. From April 18, 1885 until April 30, 1891 they had in the village Houwerzijl, in municipality Ulrum, located in the northwestern part of province Groningen, four daughters: Sjouktje, Korneliske, Elisabeth and Jantje Telling. On November 4, 1891 laborer J. Telling (28 years old) arrived with his wife Wiepke (27) and their four daughters Stoutje (!, 6 years old), Korneliske (4), Elisabeth (2) and Jantje (1) on the s.s. Veendam at the port of New York. Their last residence place in the Netherlands was Houwerzijl and their destination was Chicago, Illinois. In October 1893 and September 1897 the children John Jr and Jacoba Telling were born in Chicago. In June 1900 John Telling (38, born in December 1862 in the Netherlands, immigrated in 1892 [has to be: 1891], 16 years married, laborer at a railroad shop), his wife Wiepke (37, September 1863, Netherlands, mother of 6 living children), their children Sjouke [a son; has to be a daughter] (15, April 1885, Netherlands, servant), Elizabeth (11, April 1889, Netherlands), Jennie (9, April 1891, Netherlands), John (7, October 1893, Illinois) and Jacoba (3, September 1897, Illinois) were living at a rented home in Calumet Township, in Ward 34 in the southern part of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. So their daughter Korneliske aka Cornelia wasn't living then anymore at her parental home. About 1903 their daughter Dora was born in Chicago. In May 1910 John Telling (47, farmer) and his wife Wiepke D (46) resided with their children Jennie (19), John (16, farm laborer on home farm), Cora (12) and Dora (7) as well Wiepke's mother, Cornelia Dykstra [Helmus] (78, Netherlands), since 1868 (!) widow of Elias Lucas Dijkstra, in the southwestern part of Montana, Gallatin County, in the Heeb School District, just north of a tiny Dutch settlement that is called Amsterdam since 1911 after the construction of a railroad line to this area. In January 1920 John (26, farm laborer on home farm), his father John Telling (57, immigrated in 1891, farmer), mother Winnefred (56, immigrated in 1891), sisters Cora (22) and Dora (17) were living on their own farm in or near Manhattan Town, Gallatin County, Montana.
