She was born September 29, 1917, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Potter of Casselton, ND. She graduated from Jamestown College in Jamestown, ND in 1939 with a teaching credential. Read More	Big Timber Pioneer, June 9, 1995 Jane Potter Grosfield, age 77, died Monday, June 5, 1995, at the Livingston Memorial Hospital of complications following cancer. She was born September 29, 1917, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Potter of Casselton, ND. She graduated from Jamestown College in Jamestown, ND in 1939 with a teaching credential. In the fall of 1941, she moved to Big Timber, where she taught English and Latin at Sweet Grass County Hgh School. Jane taught in many rural schools in the Big Timber area until her retirement. She had recently substituted at the high school and volunteered may hours of reading to children at the grade school. She was active in the Big Timber Woman's Club, the Carnegie Library, the Sweet Grass Republican Central Committee, the Big Timber Lutheran Church, local bridge clubs, community plays and the Crazy Mountain Museum. She is well remembered by locals for her many hand-knit socks which she called "Birkenstokings" and for her newspaper articles in The Big Timber Pioneer reporting wild bird sightings. On April 24, 1942, Jane was married to Bryon Grosfield, a local cowboy and rancher. To this union were born a son, Brin, and a daughter, Judy. After her husband's retirement, she helped him publish a series of articles called "Yarns from the Yellowstone" and two books of his western stories. They were both active in local writers' groups. Mrs. Grossfield is survived by her son, Brin and his wife Jane and two sons, Paul and Barry of Great Falls; daughter Judy Fjell and partner, Cassandra Mitchell of Yountville, CA; brothers Clark Potter of Casselton, ND. and Ben and his wife, Helen Potter of Fargo, ND; Byron's sister, Gilma and husband Leif Andrson of Melville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 8 at the Big Timber Lutheran Church with the Rev. James Holmlund and Intern Mike Pancoast officiating. Heather Fjare sang "Hvem Kan Seile". The Church Choir and Children's Choir performed. Organist was Debby Arlian. A eulogy by Gwen Petersen was presented. Casket bearers were Chan Welin, Victor Tronrud, John Green, Chuck Rein, Don Marvine and Helmar Branae. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery.
