Orangeville Sun, May 12, 1864, page 2 We regret to have to chronicle the death, on Thursday evening last, of the wife of our respected townsman, Mr. Thomas Jackson. Mrs. Jackson was the daughter of the late Rev. J. Hales, of Kingston, and, born in 1834, at the time of her death was in her thirtieth year. She had only recently been delivered of a daughter whom she leaves behind her, but she never fully recovered the illness consequent on her confinement. Of an amiable and kind disposition she was beloved by all who knew her, and her death will be deeply mourned by a large circle of friends and acquaintances. We deeply sympathize with her husband in his present bereavement. Orangeville Sun, June 30, 1864, page 2 - Mrs. Jackson We take the following obituary notice of the late Mrs. T. Jackson of Orangeville, from the Christian Guardian, to which paper Rev. B. Sherlock communicated it: "Died on the 5th of May, 1864, Mrs. Jane Jackson, daughter of the Rev. James Hales, of the Methodist New-Connexion, after an illness of a few weeks, which was borne with Christian patience and fortitude, befitting the character of one who manifested the grace of the Christian when in health and vigor. The writer visited her within a few hours of her death, which time she expressed unshaken confidence in Christ as her Savior. The question being put, "Is Christ with you ?" she answered, "His arms are around me; he holds me up; he is sufficient; he is mine." Her end, so peaceful and triumphant, was just what those who knew her best would have anticipated, from the consistent piety and unfeigned Christian humility of her religious character. While others fight the battle of Christian Evidence over the dust of Egyptian tombs, the fossils of a bygone geologic age, or the Mathematics of Moses, let it be ours to see in such lives and deaths as Sister Jackson's the best evidence of the truth of the Gospel, and the best proofs of the power of Christ to save."
