She was married to John H. Bierly, June 11th, 1835, with whom she lived in happy wedded life for 31 years when she was left a widow. She was married to John H. Bierly, June 11th, 1835, with whom she lived in happy wedded life for 31 years when she was left a widow. They early came to this state, in the year 1840 settling in this county where she has lived until her death. She is one among the early settlers who are fast passing away and that will soon be gone. She was converted to God in early life and united with the M.E. church of which she has remained a faithful and consistent member ever since. Sister Bierly had not been well for some years past and the closing days of her life were attended with the unpleasantness of failing health and the poisons of a diseased body. Yet she had remained hopeful up to within a few days of her death that she might recover, striving heroically and patiently against the weakening physical power. But when days and weeks passed and she grew worse instead of better, she saw that the end was near and she made preparations for it. It was our privilege as her pastor to talk and pray with her frequently during her last days and she ever bore the listening of one who had anchored her soul upon Christ as her hope and trust, and in the strength and grace which he gives, was waiting for the hour of her dissolution. As the hour approached she was ready and her soul gave expression to the joy within and the hope of meeting her Lord by shouting glory, glory. She leaves a family of four daughters and a large number of relatives and friends who will mourn her loss. Yet they mourn not as those without hope. C.L. John and Jane Birely were among the best known of Cedar County pioneers.
