Matthews, 72, of 7605 Depot St., Rogers, formerly of East Palestine, passed away at 1:00 a.m. Monday at the Salem Community Hospital, following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Matthews was born October 5, 1934 in East Palestine, a daughter of the late Roy and Edith Simon Woods, and had resided in the East Palestine area for most of her life. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed with the former Interlock Steel, East Palestine, for twenty-five years, and had been a member of the Grace Lutheran Church. Mrs. Matthews was born October 5, 1934 in East Palestine, a daughter of the late Roy and Edith Simon Woods, and had resided in the East Palestine area for most of her life. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed with the former Interlock Steel, East Palestine, for twenty-five years, and had been a member of the Grace Lutheran Church. She is survived by three daughters, Lyndie Arthur, New Springfield, Kelly Mackall, with whom she resided, and Shari A. Matthews, of East Palestine. Four sons also survive, Mylan "Terry" Woods, East Palestine, John Arthur, San Antonio, TX, Richard Arthur, Negley, and Daniel Matthews, Kentucky; sixteen grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jenna Peterson, and two brothers and two sisters, Richard, Eugene, Eunice, and Rita. The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home, with Rev. Donald Pentz, of the church, officiating. Burial will follow in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens, New Waterford. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday.
