Craig Janet Lauree Craig, of Beaver Crossing, died Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at her home following a long and courageous battle with cancer at the age of 55 years and 30 days. She was born in Seward Nebraska on December 11, 1951 to Ervin L. and Zelma (Schweitzer) Nichols, the oldest of five children. Craig Janet Lauree Craig, of Beaver Crossing, died Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at her home following a long and courageous battle with cancer at the age of 55 years and 30 days. She was born in Seward Nebraska on December 11, 1951 to Ervin L. and Zelma (Schweitzer) Nichols, the oldest of five children. As a young girl she attended Beaver Crossing Public School and graduated with the Class of 1970 from Centennial High School in Utica. While still in high school, Janet began a long career of care giving at the Sundermann Nursing Home in Seward. On January 23, 1971, she was united in marriage to James R. Craig in Seward and to this union three children, Rodney, Jeremy and Kimberly were born. Together they made their home in Seward for a time before settling in Beaver Crossing. Janet continued her nursing career, earning the designation of CSM. Later she operated a daycare in her home. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Seward. In her spare time, Janet loved her flower garden, especially raising roses. Although, her most important time was that spent with her granddaughters, Janet included all the children who had been her day care as her children. Recently as Janet fought her battle with cancer, she spent many hours doing special embroidery projects for her family. She is survived by her husband, James, sons and daughter-in-law, Rodney Craig, Jeremy and Nicole Craig, daughter, Kimberly Jo Craig all of Beaver Crossing and Kimberly's special friend, Shawn Hengelfelt, Lincoln, granddaughters, Cheyenne Nikkita and Sydney Marie, mother, Zelma Nichols, Beaver Crossing, brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Sue Nichols, Beaver Crossing, sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Don Squires, Beaver Crossing, Joanie and Robert McLellan, Henderson, Judy Schmersal, Seward, mother-in-law, Helen Craig, Seward, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gary and Melody Craig, Ulylsses, John and Sue Craig, Brian and Tami Craig, all of Seward, Janet and Ligie Rundell, Pine Bluffs, WY, Melissa Craig, Seward, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Janet was preceded in death by her father, Ervin Nichols, father-in-law, Gordon Craig, grandparents, Joe and Marie Schweitzer, Victor and Viola Nichols, John and Winifred Craig, Paul Bock, Jessie and Ed Sheehan, great-nephew, Christian Reifler. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2007, at the United Methodist Church, Beaver Crossing with Pastor Tim Springer officiating. Register Book available for signing 2-8pm Friday, Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Beaver Crossing. Memorials have been established to the family.
