A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2018, at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Nashua with Rev. Gary Meyer celebrating the Mass. Interment will follow at St. Michaels Cemetery in Nashua where grandsons Joshua Traxel, Curtis Thompson, Matthew Theilen, Bradley Theilen, Daniel Theilen, Kaleb Junker, Karter Junker, Nicholas Kovarik, and Nathan Kovarik will serve as pallbearers. Read More	Janice Elaine Theilen, age 82 of Nashua, Iowa died Saturday, October 27, 2018, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City. Interment will follow at St. Michaels Cemetery in Nashua where grandsons Joshua Traxel, Curtis Thompson, Matthew Theilen, Bradley Theilen, Daniel Theilen, Kaleb Junker, Karter Junker, Nicholas Kovarik, and Nathan Kovarik will serve as pallbearers. Granddaughters Heather Hsieh, Janice Thompson, Jennifer Theilen, Katelyn Junker and Jessica Koupal will be honorary pallbearers. Friends may greet the family from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2018, at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home -- Olson Chapel in Nashua, where there will be a 3:30 Rosary and a 6:30 Parish Scripture Service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Janice Elaine Theilen was born March 14, 1936, in Oakwood, Iowa, at her grandparents’ house, the daughter of Robert Jesse and Minnie (Clingerman) Coen. When she was younger her parents moved around a lot and she attended many different schools. She attended Colwell High School before meeting the love of her life, Marlan "Bud" Theilen. The couple went on their first date when Bud was dared to ask Janice out. Janice always turned boys down when she was asked out but there was something different about Bud so the couple went out and fell in love. They were married on December 13, 1952, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union, seven children were born. When Jan and Bud were first married, they lived in several different places because of Bud working road construction. They lived in Clear Lake, Algona and Mason City before deciding to go into farming together. They farmed in the Nashua and Plainfield areas for 38 years as a team. During this time Jan also worked at S&L Clothing Store in Nashua. In 1995 they retired from farming and moved into Nashua. Jan then started to work for Nashua Pharmacy and Floral where she stayed for 11 years. She truly enjoyed making floral arrangements and the interaction she had with the customers. Jan was very active in the church and different church activities. She was a member of St. Margaret Mary's Circle where she served in many capacities and was the President of the Church Guild. Jan was also a member of the Evergreen Ladies Aid and enjoyed the Birthday Coffee Club with her neighbors. You could often catch Jan sewing, knitting, crocheting or doing all different kinds of arts and crafts. She also enjoyed fruits of her gardening by canning food for the entire family. Bud and Jan loved to go dancing and traveling after they retired from the farm. Dairy farming didn’t allow them any time to travel while they were working so they took advantage of retirement when they could. Jan always had a large interest in family genealogy. She like finding out about her heritage and where she and her extended family came from. Jan also always loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by many. Jan is survived by her husband Bud, of Charles City, IA; six children, Pamela (Thomas) Traxel of Springfield, IL, Susan Thompson of Nashua, IA, Jeffery Theilen of Nashua, IA, Mary (Bryan) Junker of Greene, IA, Linda (Dale) Kovarik of Goshen, IN, Karen (Stephen) Koupal of Waverly, IA; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Ray (Ayten) Harris of Concord, CA; one brother-in-law Ivan Johannaber of Hunstville, MO; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter Cynthia Harris; four brothers, Clyde, Paul, Robert “Dean”, Galen “Max”; four sisters, Esther (Lester) Lange, Lulu (Alfred) Buls; Vivian Coen: Gloria Mack Johannaber.
