Committal services will follow in the Occupy # 1 Cemetery in Pitkin under the guidance of White Oaks, Oakdale. Janice, 82, of Oakdale, entered eternal rest on Tuesday August 19, 2008, in DeQuincy. She was born on December 9, 1925, in Oakdale to the union of Harless Thompson and Elizabeth Ray Thompson. She was a member of the Mt. Hope Baptist Church, excellent basketball player for Oakdale High School, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Janice also was a day care operator for 30 years and a sales clerk for many department stores in Oakdale. Her parents, Harless and Elizabeth Thompson and her husband, Raymond Strother precedes her in death. She leaves behind her loving family to cherish her memory, two sons, Gene Strother of Austin and Keith Strother and wife Pam of Oakdale; two daughters, Sandy Strother of DeQuincy and Karen Clinton and husband Mike of Oakdale; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Extreme special thanks to the employees of the DeQuincy Home Health, Dr. Alan LeBato and staff of Lake Charles for their excellent and unending care of Janice. Pallbearers will be Chad Strother, Todd Strother, Nathan Strother, Michael Horn, Brandon Strother and Lane Thompson. The family will be receiving friends today from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. and on Friday from 9 a.m.. until time of service in the White Oaks Memorial Chapel.
