Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery following the service. Janiet Lou (Platter) Pepper was born in Boone, Iowa on July 21, 1939, the daughter of Cloyd and Muriel (Walters) Platter. She graduated from Boone High School in 1957. On September 24,1960 Janiet married Vernon Carman in Omaha, Nebraska. Jan and Vern established the Boone County Flyer, now known as the Boone County Shopping News. Jan also worked along side Vern in many of his endeavors including being instrumental in establishing and operating the Boone Speedway. Vern died on July 31,1979. On April 24,1993, Janiet married P. Eugene ‘Gene’ Pepper in Boone, Iowa. Jan worked at the former Donnelley Marketing in Nevada as a press operator and later press supervisor, retiring in 1996 when it closed. She enjoyed antiquing, bike riding, hiking, walking, traveling, reading, jigsaw puzzles, and listening to music by Kenny G. Jan loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Vern Carman; a grandson, Adam Newcomb; brothers, Emlyn, Lyle, and LaVerne ‘Bud’ Platter; a sister Shirley Mumma. Jan is survived by her husband Gene of Boone; two daughters, Marti (William) Ingle of Altoona, and Terrie (Rich) Hadaway of Madison, South Dakota; a son, William (Terri) Carman of Des Moines; a stepson, Dave (Mary) Pepper of Boone; a stepdaughter, Katie (Alan) Kole of Ames; 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, sister-n-law Gwen Platter of Boone and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, on Tuesday from 4 until 8 p.m. The family will be present from 6 until 8 p.m. On Wednesday, friends may call at the Church from 9:30 a.m. until service time. In memory of Jan, memorials may be directed to the family.
