Lyle Duane Platter was born in Boone, Iowa, on September 12, 1936, the son of Cloyd E. and Muriel (Walters) Platter. Lyle attended trade school and became a bricklayer. He was a union bricklayer for many years and later, he and his son Cloyd, owned/operated ‘Best In Masonry Work’. Lyle retired in January of 1998. Read More	Lyle Platter, age 78, of 202-1st Street in Pilot Mound, died February 24, 2015, at the University Hospitals in Iowa City. Lyle Duane Platter was born in Boone, Iowa, on September 12, 1936, the son of Cloyd E. and Muriel (Walters) Platter. Lyle attended trade school and became a bricklayer. He was a union bricklayer for many years and later, he and his son Cloyd, owned/operated ‘Best In Masonry Work’. Lyle retired in January of 1998. Lyle was a member of the Hunt and Fish Club and a fifty year member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 27. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, vegetable gardening, camping, and in earlier years, he enjoyed racing his #5 stock car at the Boone Speedway and area tracks. Lyle is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Emlyn Platter, and a sister Shirley Mumma. He is survived by two sons, Cloyd D. Platter and wife Nancy of Boone and Michael Platter and wife Tamra of Pilot Mound; two daughters Joyce Lippert and husband Michael of Ames, and Colleen ’Coke’ Smith and husband Brodie of Boone; Lyle’s former wife and companion Barbara Platter of Pilot Mound and her children, Patty Burkheimer and Doug Videgar of Ames, Rick Robertson and wife Georgia of Boone, and Shelley Garland and husband Jim of Pilot Mound; a brother LaVerne ‘Bud’ Platter and wife Gwen of Boone; a sister Janet Pepper and husband Gene of Boone; nine grandchildren; many great grandchildren; a great–great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
