Jann Lynell Lortz, daughter of Donald and Leila (Pronneke) Lortz, was born March 1, 1955, at Osmond. She was baptized April 3, 1955, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, east and north of Plainview. At the age of 2, Jann moved with her parents to Norfolk. Jann was confirmed April 2, 1970, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Norfolk. She graduated from Norfolk Senior High in 1973, participating in Band, the Pink Panthers and Drama. After graduation, Jann started her career at Norfolk Regional Center. While working full time, Jann attended Northeast Community College, graduating with an Associate of Arts Degree in 1975. On June 5, 1976, Jann married Richard Barrett. In December 1988, she enrolled in the accelerated bachelor's degree completion program at Bellevue College in Omaha. After earning a bachelor of professional studies degree and graduating with honors, Jann advanced to the position of Psychological Services Assistant at the Regional Center. In 1994, Jann was designated as Employee of the Month and in 1995, she was selected as the Caring Kind Employee of the Year. On May 15, 1994, Jann married Lyle Widhalm. Jann retired from the Norfolk Regional Center in December 2002. Jann was a member of St, John's Lutheran Church. She is survived by her mother, Leila, and stepfather, Gerald Smith of Norfolk; a brother, Steve and his wife, Cyndi of Lincoln; nephew, Colin of Jacksonville, Fla.; niece, Kelsy of Lincoln; her grandmother, Gladys Lortz of Omaha; two stepbrothers, Roddy and his wife, Dianna of Chaska, Minn., Brian and his wife, Linda of Arlington, Texas; four stepsisters, Robin and her husband John of Colorado Springs, Colo., Barbara and her husband Bob of Jackson, Mich., Penny and her husband, Tony of Schuyler, Tina and her husband Kevin of Norfolk; nieces and nephews.
