Description	:	Jantien Jacoba Koole was born the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arie Koole. Her family moved to Grangeville, Idaho in 1938 where Jan completed her schooling and graduated from high school. She attended Kinman Business University in Spokane and upon graduating was employed by the American Automobile Association in their Spokane office doing secretarial and bookkeeping jobs. They made their home on a farm near... Read More	Jantien Jacoba Koole was born the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arie Koole. Her family moved to Grangeville, Idaho in 1938 where Jan completed her schooling and graduated from high school. She attended Kinman Business University in Spokane and upon graduating was employed by the American Automobile Association in their Spokane office doing secretarial and bookkeeping jobs. While at a dance near Potlatch one evening, Jan met her future husband while each was helping at the scene of a car accident. Jan married Thomas Lawrence Pennell on November 17, 1946 in Grangeville. They made their home on a farm near Garfield where they worked and raised their family for many years. Jan thoroughly enjoyed being a wife, mother and homemaker. She was an excellent cook and was very active in her children's lives and in her Garfield community. She was an active member of the Garfield Methodist Church where she served as church organist and often played for weddings and funerals. While on the farm, Jan developed a special loving bond with Dee Jackson, who spent summers working on their farm, and that friendship has endured all her life. Jan loved taking care of her home and yard and growing beautiful roses. She and Tom were active in the Moscow Elk's Lodge and later in the Colfax Elk's where they often were seen gliding around the dance floor. Jan and Tom built a lake cabin at Conkling Park on Lake Coeur d'Alene in 1968 where they spent many summers and had wonderful family gatherings. They moved into Colfax in 1977 and following retirement they enjoyed traveling and spending winters either in southern California or in Hawaii. Always an avid Cougar fan; she loved football and basketball and attended the games whenever she could. She was proud of her grandchildren and loved following their sporting events as well. In Colfax, she was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Athenaeum Club, she enjoyed playing cards, and loved golfing with her friends at the Colfax Golf & Country Club. Jan has made Bishop Place in Pullman her home for the last six months where she has thoroughly enjoyed making new friends and acquaintances and fixing her cottage just right. She is survived by her three children; Marcia Jan McCracken of Garfield, Roger Thomas Pennell also of Garfield, and Jeanne Kay Tribbett of Colfax, 7 grandchildren, Brooks McCracken, John, David and Karlyn Pennell and Tracy, Tara and Tommy Tribbett; and her brother, Len Koole of Lewiston, ID. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom in 2002, a sister, Reka Betournay and two brothers, Willie and Arie Koole.
