Read More	Jess Blaine, 64 HARLAN — Jasper Jess Blaine, the son of Cary and Violet (Landon) Blaine was born at Harlan, Aug. 18, 1923. He died at St. Joseph hospital, Omaha, NE, Jan. 17,1988 at age 64 years, four months and 30 days. He attended school in Harlan and worked at Hamarand Blacksmith Shop. July 11, 1948, he married Thelma Louise Myers in Algona. Two sons and four daughters were born to this union. After their marriage, they farmed near Algona for a time before moving back to Harlan where he worked for Squealers, Harlan Rendering. For a few years, he owned and operated his own rendering truck, then was employed at the Pork Plant and construction. He then became the custodian at the Middle School of Harlan Community School District, where he was currently employed. He was coach for Special Olympics and loved working with children. He had appeared as Santa Claus for many families, Shelby County Historical Museum, Shelby County Association for Retarded Citizens, 7th Day Adventist Church and Senior Citizens. He was a member of the board of directors of the Shelby County .Association of Retarded Citizens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Thelma of Harlan; two sons, James of SC and Larry John of Harlan; four daughters, Linda (Mrs David) Frain of Omaha; Violet (Mrs Allan) Weiss of SC; Constance (Mrs Mick) Schuler of Avoca and Betty Ann (Mrs Jim) Briggs of Corley; 18 grandchildren; two brothers, Donald and Dale Blaine both of Des Moines; one sister, Opal (Mrs Robert) Bertsch of Harlan; nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services were Jan. 20, 1988 at Pauley Funeral Home, Harlan with Pastor Paul Olsen and Pastor Otto Zwanziger of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan, officiating. Burial was in Harlan cemetery with Harvey D. Sutton, Donald D. Clark, Gerald Christensen and Charles Gearhart serving as honorary casket bearers. Serving as casket bearers were Dan Bertsch, Steve Blaine, Tom Bertsch, Jake Baker, Richard Blaine and Edward L. Blaine. Pauley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
