Centerville Daily Iowegian And Citizen May 25, 1940 JASPER COFFIN OF MORAVIA TAKEN AT KIRKSVILLE FRIDAY Long Time Resident of County Succumbs to Lingering Illness; Funeral Next Week Moravia—(Special)—Jasper Coffin, 76, long time resident of Moravia, died of illness at the Osteopathic hospital in Kirksville, Mo., last night at 10:45 o'clock. Mr. Coffin had been in poor health for the past five months and had been confined to the hospital for two weeks prior to his death. The son of Jonathan and Mary Elizabeth Coffin, Jasper was born on a farm five miles southeast of Moravia on Oct. 27, 1863. Early In life he became a carpenter and he followed that trade for the past forty years. While a young man he joined the Miller Baptist church but he later became a member of the Moravia Methodist congregation. On Oct 23, 1912, he married Luella Horner and shortly after they moved into the home that was his residence for the rest of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers and two sisters. Surviving are his widow, one sister, Mrs. A. M Pennington of Des Moines and two brothers, Charles of Moravia and Alfred of Miami, Oklahoma, besides nine nephews and nieces.
