Bullis was born Aug. 3, 1934, to Jim and Pearle (Colvill) Bullis at home near Nashua, Minn. He grew up in that area and attended school at District 61. Jay then graduated from 8th grade at Wendell, Minn. Jay married Marge Hoffman in 1974 at Alexandria, S.D. Jay was a carpenter in construction for many years. He worked for Fred Flateau and then Haram Cooper in the Nashua area. Later he worked for Asp Construction in the Fargo, N.D., area. After the company closed, Jay worked for Nordling Construction until an accident forced him to retire. He then started a hobby farm with his family near Aberdeen. Jay was a board member of the Walleye Club. He was an avid fisherman and spent much of his time on the water. Jay enjoyed using his skills in carpentry to make and fix furniture for his friends. The horses and cows on their hobby farm brought Jay great joy. Nothing could compare to joy and pride he had in his grandchildren. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Marge, Aberdeen; four sons: Harry (Kim) Bullis, West Fargo, N.D., Danny (Cindy) Bullis, Moorhead, Minn., Scott (Donna) Hoffman, Upton, Wyo., and Kory (Kim) Bullis, Fargo, N.D.; three daughters: Janice Tollefson, Tammi Cole, both of West Fargo, N.D.; Lisa Dyce, Aberdeen; eight grandchildren: Robbie Bullis, Chris Bullis, Jay Svir, Lacy Cole, Matt Bullis, Amanda Bullis, Ty Tollefson and Hannah Bullis; brother: Wally (Deloris) Bullis, Elbow Lake, Minn.; three sisters: Joanne (Gary) Van Wechel, Fergus Falls, Minn., Vione (Mike) Westhoff, Wyoming, Minn., and Verna (Kirk) Smee, California; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family prefers friends to come dressed casually in jeans. Published in the Aberdeen News on 4/3/2005.
