Description	:	Sioux City Man Takes Own Life — The body of Jay Vernon Coover, 30, a trucker, was found Tuesday in his room at the Pierce hotel, 707 1/2 Pierce street. Dr. Thomas L. Coriden, coroner, said that Coover had committed suicide by shooting himself with a 16-gauge shotgun. Officers placed the time of the shooting at around 7 o'clock Tuesday morning. Coover was found by Nicholas Schneiders, hotel manager, and Betty Korstad, a bookkeeper, after maids had begun the day's cleaning and received no answer from his room. A member of the family said that Coover stopped for a moment Monday night at the residence of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Coover, 203 S. Wall street, and picked up the gun. He said that he planned to go hunting. The family said he appeared in good spirits at that time. He left no notes in his room. Survivors include the parents, two brothers, Thomas and Robert, and a sister, Mrs. Marguerite Dilley, all of Sioux City. Mr. Coover operated a trucking service here. He was born at Salix, March 6, 1923. He moved to Sioux City 12 years ago. A veteran of world war 2, he enlisted in the army in 1942 and served in this country until 1946. He was a member of the American Legion. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Rutledge funeral home. Rev. M. L. Metcalf will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial park cemetery.
