Description	:	Jean Butler Oct. 9, 1920-Oct. 2005 Jean Barbara (Jones) Butler, daughter of Alfred Bertie and Alma Sophia (Tillgren) Jones, was born in Cleghorn, Iowa, October 9, 1920, and was baptized by the Methodist minister. Shortly afterwards the family moved to Missouri Valley, Iowa, where Jean took violin lessons from age 8 and often played in the Methodist church and other organizations. She also sang in the church choir. Read More	Jean Butler Oct. 9, 1920-Oct. 2005 Jean Barbara (Jones) Butler, daughter of Alfred Bertie and Alma Sophia (Tillgren) Jones, was born in Cleghorn, Iowa, October 9, 1920, and was baptized by the Methodist minister. Shortly afterwards the family moved to Missouri Valley, Iowa, where Jean took violin lessons from age 8 and often played in the Methodist church and other organizations. She also sang in the church choir. She graduated from Missouri Valley High School at age sixteen (1937), did a year of post-graduate work and then attended and graduated from Morningside College graduating with a Bachelor of School Music degree (1942). While at Morningside she was a baton twirler with the marching band, played flute and French horn in concert band, sang with the college choir and played violin in the Sioux City Symphony. Upon graduation, Jean taught vocal and instrumental music in Gillette Grove, Logan and Persia, Iowa, and continued to play in the symphony. On July 7, 1945, she was married to Robert Franklin Butler, Charter Oak, Iowa, where they reared five children. Jean returned to the workforce in 1966 as a teacher aide at Charter Oak-Ute School district for ten years and as records specialist at the Denison Job Corps during its first five years. As a member of the United Methodist Church in Charter Oak, Jean was the choir director for both senior and junior choirs for twenty-one years. She was a member of the Homer Hall Legion Auxiliary, past president of the VFW Auxiliary and past Worthy Matron of the Live Oak chapter of Eastern Star. Jean was also a board member of the Crawford County Arts Council for many years. After she retired, Jean taught water exercises classes at the Charter Oak pool for several years. She loved her family, friends, music and the arts, and sporting events. She enjoyed swimming and walking. Jean wants everyone to know she had a "happy life". She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert, and brothers, Ronald and Darwin. She is survived by her children, J. Melodie Robinson and her husband, Dennis, Ottumwa and their daughter, Angela Joy, Jeffrey Robert Sr., and Linda Butler, Ruthven and their children Jeffrey Robert Jr., Rebecca Jean and Mara Rose, Jodie Su Butler and Gerald Ott, Des Moines, Bryce Alfred and Lita Butler, Milford, William Matthew and Lori Butler and their daughter, Jessica Alleman. Her step-grandchildren include Amy Powers (Jeff and Linda), Jalene Megchelsen, Janesse Ceron, (Jodie and Gerry), Selena Schmied, Neal Gloede, (Bryce and Lita) and Jordan Olsen (Bill and Lori). She is also survived by her brother, Milton (Doris) of Council Bluffs; and her sisters-and brothers-in-law (Ila Krueger, Blaine and Lois Butler and Richard and Lois Butler) and many nephews and nieces and friends. Memorial services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 15, 2005 at the United Methodist Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. Ken Baughman officiated the service with inurnment at the Charter Oak Cemetery. Mary Kuhlmann provided the organ accompaniment for violinist, Dr. RoseMary Mason who played "Meditation From Thais" by Jules Massenet and "Air For the G String" by Johann Sebastian Bach and congregational hymns "On Eagle's Wings" and "Softly & Tenderly Jesus Is Calling". The family invited everyone to join them in fellowship and lunch at the Community Building, served by the Methodist Women.
