Description	:	Palo Alto Tribune, June 4, 1924: Mrs. Jean Gaston died at her home in Vinton on Saturday, May 31, at the age of 79 years. The body was brought here for burial. Funeral services were conducted by Rev.J. E. Brereton on Monday and the body was interred in Evergreen cemetery beside that of her husband who died in 1910. Miss Jean Baker was born in Ayrshire, Scotland on October 15, 1844. She came to America when nine years of age and settled in Illinois. There she grew to womanhood. She united in marriage with John (sic) Gaston on August 29, 1860, at Utica, Ill. Eleven children were born to this union. The family moved to this county in 1900 and settled on a farm at the head of the lake known as the J. Allen farm. Later the family moved to Emmetsbrg. About seven years ago Mrs. Gaston and her two daughters, Misses Sadie and Fannie, went to Vinton and established their home. They subsequently resided there. Mrs. Gaston was a good wife and mother. She was kind, charitable and a splendid neighbor. She was a woman of strong character and high ideals. She lived her life well and performed her duties faithfully. She was prepared to answer the final summons and give a good account of herself. She is survived by nine children; two sons, David and Jesse, are deceased. The children who survive are Mrs. Margaret Cusberson, who resides in Illinois, John and Robert Gaston, Mrs. P. R. Henderson and Miss Jean Gaston of Emmetsburg, Misses Fannie and Sadie Gaston and Mrs. Robert Poston of Vinton, Alex of Columbia City, Ind.
