Description	:	Jean Carol Nuss, 83, of Waverly, Iowa, died peacefully at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly on Friday, January 9, 2015. Jean was born in Atlantic, Iowa, daughter of Sam and Priscilla (Norris) Studley. At the end of WWII, her family moved to a farm on the Cedar River three miles north of Waverly where Jean lived until she graduated from the Waverly High School in 1949. Read More	Jean Carol Nuss, 83, of Waverly, Iowa, died peacefully at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly on Friday, January 9, 2015. Jean was born in Atlantic, Iowa, daughter of Sam and Priscilla (Norris) Studley. At the end of WWII, her family moved to a farm on the Cedar River three miles north of Waverly where Jean lived until she graduated from the Waverly High School in 1949. In 1949, Jean married Norman Nuss who owned and operated Nuss Hatchery on a farm at the current site of the Open Bible Church. When Norm's brother, Erwin, joined the business, Norm and Jean moved to a farm five miles northwest of Waverly on Highway C-33 where they raised 7 children, primarily supported by livestock farming and eventually by a livestock buying/trucking business. Jean was a totally committed mother, investing her entire life into the care and support of her children, delivering them to their many activities in town, and eventually caring lovingly for the next generation of their children. She coordinated the Nuss Family Dinner/Potluck every Sunday at noon—no reservations needed-- for more than 50 years of her life, that always provided more variety of food than any gathering of 35 or more people should enjoy. Her providers at Bartels relate that she was positive, generous, and content to the end--never happier than when the newest members of her family visited. Jean and Norm were charter and faithful members of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly and maintained the early vision of a smaller, closer congregation. They helped to organize the new church prior to 1965, and their children filled the early Sunday school and confirmation classes. Jean's memory is honored by 6 of her children, Frederick (Merry) Nuss of Des Moines, Kenneth (Sherry) Nuss of Waverly, Kathryn Nuss (Steve Palmquist) of Lakeville, MN, Judith (Tim) Kramer of Nashua, Sheryl (Larry) Marlette of Baraboo, WI, and Charles (Jill) Nuss of Denver, IA; 17 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren; her older sister, Madge Miller of Dallas, TX; and a son-in-law, David White of Shell Rock. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Norman in 2008; a daughter Norma in 2000; a grandson Ben Kollenkark in 1984; and a great-grandson Jenner Hilton in 2004. Graveside services will be held on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Memorial services will be held on Monday, January 12th at 1:00 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly, with Pastor Dan Kahl officiating. Public visitation will be held on Sunday, January 11th from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Memorials may be directed to Redeemer Lutheran Church or Breast Cancer Awareness.
