Born on April 10, 1924 in Cherokee, Iowa, she was the daughter of Willard Andrew and Emma E. (Beck) Parks. Jean’s family moved to Carroll when she was seven years old and she graduated from St. Angela’s Academy in 1942. Fleshner, age 90, of Carroll passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the Carroll Health Center in Carroll. Born on April 10, 1924 in Cherokee, Iowa, she was the daughter of Willard Andrew and Emma E. (Beck) Parks. Jean’s family moved to Carroll when she was seven years old and she graduated from St. Angela’s Academy in 1942. Following high school she worked for the Garst and Thomas Seed Company in Coon Rapids where she met her future husband. She was married to Harvey Fleshner on April 24, 1943 at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Harvey served in the US Army until 1946 while Jean lived in Carroll. She helped her mother cook at the Carroll Country Club and did various jobs. When Harvey returned from the war she later worked part time for the Chicago Northwestern Rail Road as a depot agent. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the LWML, and she taught Sunday school. She was also a member of the St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary, the Carroll County Historical Society, and the Lincoln Highway Association. Jean enjoyed crocheting, making afghans for those she loved. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, and visiting with friends and family. Jean is survived by three daughters: Patricia Beck of Carroll; Gayle Dean of Carroll, and Cindy Hesse and her husband Alan of Council Bluffs; a son Jerry Fleshner and his special friend Lynne Humphrey of Carroll; nine grandchildren: Chris Beck and his wife Meggan, Holly Beck Blevins, Amanda Dean, Scott Hesse and his wife Jennifer, Samantha Travis and her husband Ben, Paul Hesse and his wife Jackie, Jessica Tunal and her husband Chris, Brian Fleshner and his wife Scarlett, and Matthew Fleshner; eleven great grandchildren: Ashley, Spencer, Kylie, Jackson, Sage, Isabel, Sophia, Henry, Claire, and Zeke; a brother-in-law Leonard Fleshner and his wife Gudrun of Omaha; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jean was preceded in death by her parents Willard Parks and Emma Vanderheiden, her husband Harvey in 2013, two sisters: Joyce Wurr and Marge Schenkelberg, and a brother Bobby in infancy.
