Carroll Daily Times Herald - January 31, 1949 - Willard A. Parks, 54, died at 4 o’clock this morning at St. Anthony hospital, a victim of the heavy snow storm which struck Carroll Thursday, January 27. Mr. Parks, a Chicago and North Western coal cinder operator, became ill of pneumonia after walking in the storm Thursday night from the coal chutes to the apartment of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. William Carlson on North Main street. He was taken Friday noon to the hospital, where his death, caused by pneumonia and complications, occurred early today. Funeral services will be at 9:30 Wednesday morning at St. Lawrence church, of which Mr. Parks was a member. The Rev Fr. Arthur Poecke will read the requiem mass. The body is resting at the Huffman Funeral home where the rosary, led by the Rev. Fr. Poeckes, will be prayed at 8 o'clock Tuesday evening. Mr. Parks, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Parks, was born July 3, 1894 in Cherokee where he was reared. He attended the Cherokee schools. His marriage to Emma Beck took place May 22, 1922, in Cherokee. Mr. and Mrs. Parks and family have lived in Carroll since 1931. Mr Parks has worked at the coal chutes the last 15 years. The family home is at the Carroll Country club, where Mrs. Parks is cateress. Besides his wife, Mr. Parks leaves three daughters: Mrs. Harvey Fleshner (Jean), Breda; Mrs. William Carlson (Joyce), Carroll, and Marjory, at home; two grandchildren, Patty Jo Fleshner and Danny Carlson, and one sister, Mrs Lou Crane (Mae), Cherokee. His parents preceded him in death.
