Read More	HUGHES, JEAN L.—Jean L. Hughes was born January 1, 1928, in Geneva township, the daughter of Walter Henry and Vera Grace Pittard Lovegrove. She passed away on September 12, 1991, at the age of 63 years, eight months and 11 days. Jean was the eldest of two daughters. She lived her entire life in Geneva township and attended rural school District 81. Following high school graduation, she taught two terms in Rural School District 11 and continued to substitute teach for an additional two year in School District 75. On June 22, 1947, she was united in marriage to Darrel L. Hughes. To this union were born three children, Douglas, Richard and Cheryl. Jean lived on the family farm six miles northwest of Geneva until moving to their new home in Geneva in 1975. Her special loves and interests revolved around many various things; above all was her unparalleled love for family, friends and a special place in her heart was always reserved for her grandchildren. She loved to travel and did so many times in the states and abroad. Jean’s extensive travels led her and Darrel, many times, to far away destinations in her relentless genealogical research. This hobby was her passion as well as her therapy in her last years. Jean’s tremendous faith and courage sustained her during the many years of her illness. Her many talents also included a flair for art and special God given gift for writing. Jean was a lifetime member of the Geneva United Methodist Church where she served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years and held many other offices in the church and the U.M.W. She recently received her 50-year membership recognition. She was also a member of O.K. Kensington, Hospital Auxiliary, American Cancer Society, Geneva Township Club, Meals on Wheels, Out Reach to Recovery, a charter member of the Geneva Community Grange 403, in which she passionately served and shared responsibility for the publication of the “Fillmore County Story.” Jean was known for her devotion to her family, for her many talents and for her tireless efforts in a variety of activities for her church and community. Jean had a humbling sense of humor and always wore a smile concealing the pain of her illness. She is survived by her husband, Darrel L. Hughes; two sons, Douglas and wife Mary Ann, and Richard and wife Kay; and one daughter, Cheryl, and husband Mitchell Hedden; six grandchildren, Prescott Hughes, Sarah, Melissa and Nathan Hughes, Ryan and Adam Hedden, along with many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Delores Dand. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist Church in Geneva at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 16, 1991, with Rev. Stanley Rider officiating. Mrs. Judy Ackland accompanied Mrs. Susan Rickert who sang “Amazing Grace” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” Those serving as pallbearers were Harold E. Dwyer, Ted F. Hedden, Robert Hughes, Kenneth Hughes, Clair Christiancy and Rodger Richards. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal September 26th, 1991 page 15.
